Unique San Francisco Guide (Allergy friendly and gluten-free)

I recently visited San Francisco with my sister Sam and parents. We found some unique activities and allergy friendly spots in and around the city! Tap the underlined headings to link to Instagram.

Activities

1. Sailboat Tour with Evan

We found Evan through AirBnB. He offers a 2 hour tour of the San Francisco Bay via sailboat and you can request a specific time as well.

We sailed mid-day. Evan was so friendly and told us about his adventures sailing through storms and living in foreign countries. He was also very knowledgeable in the mechanics of the boat for every engineering question my dad had!

2. Ride the Trolley

Sam and I hopped on in Giradelli Square and road the Powell-Hyde line (Views of Coit Tower, Alcatraz Island, and San Francisco Bay) to the end and back. You’ll get great views of the city.

*HOT TIP: For the best views, riding on the right side of the car if you’re departing and the left side returning.

3. Dat Nail Salon

(415) 539–7321

2406 Polk Street, San Francisco CA 94109

Incredibly beautiful non- toxic, vegan manicures, pedicures and gel. The staff is so friendly here and they squeezed us in special so we really appreciated that!

A 100% dedicated Gluten Free and Vegan facility, as well as, 100% Soy Free, Trans Fat Free & Refined Sugar Free (except for the almond and oat milk used for drinks, 5g cane sugar per serving).

Most of their bakery items do contain oats (which I’m allergic to) but there are options that are free from oat, coconut and nuts for those that need.

This spot has amazing vibes and a dry gluten-free cider so what more could you ask for? The whole menu is gluten-free except for the buttermilk biscuits which of course my Dad tried and said they were incredible. The staff was super friendly and helpful with accommodating allergies, they went over the whole menu and made some dishes special for us!

We had grilled peaches with a basil olive oil and arugula, the Seed Loaf, and Japanese Sweet Potato Tostones for appetizers. I also recommend the Griddled Daikon Radish Cakes; I’ve never had anything like them before they were great!

This restaurant is a real hidden gem and should be recognized for also having their entire menu and ingredients on their website. It makes it very easy to note allergies for specific dishes!

Icecream / Dessert

1. GIO Gelati

GIO stands for “Gelato Italiano Originale” — each flavor is made in-house from scratch with all-natural, farm-fresh ingredients.

They have a wide selection of dairy-free and vegan options as well as the classics. I had the fig, chocolate and pistachio flavors, they were beautiful!

What I really loved about this place is that it really reminded me of the time I lived in Rome, Italy. No one rushes you, you’re invited to slow down and enjoy.
